[11 May 2020 – Update on SMA COVID-19 Food Drive for Stittsville Food Bank] – 1st drop-off of non-perishable items made
The month of fasting, Ramadan, reminds us to share our blessings with the community by giving back. To help our neighbors in this time of COVID-19 pandemic, Stittsville Muslim Association (SMA), formed in 2019, is holding food drives which includes collecting monetary donations as well as curbside non-perishable items collection at local volunteer homes in the Stittsville area in the month of May.
We are grateful for this opportunity to connect with our Stittsville community by giving back in this challenging time when so many of us have been impacted.
As part of this campaign, on 11 May 2020, SMA volunteers dropped off high demand items to the Stittsville Food Bank (located at 1631 MAIN ST, Stittsville, ON K2S 1B8) along with all the non- perishable items collected in SMA donation boxes as pictured below.
The second drop-off, which is planned for 18th May 2020, SMA will provide the Stittsville Food Bank with the requested items to fill the shelves of the food bank with the rest of the money collected.
We want to thank you, our neighbours and friends in Stittsville, for your generosity in helping the SMA raise over $1500 dollars to help the local Stittsville Food Bank in this month of Ramadan to support the food bank’s needs in the month of May, 2020.
Stittsville Food Bank has advised us that following items are in high demand:
- Juice boxes
- Hot chocolate
- Kidney beans
- Dried lentils
